Be–Do–Have: The Simple Formula for Creating the Life You Want

Have you ever told yourself, “When I finally achieve this goal, then I’ll be happy”? Maybe it’s a financial milestone — “When I make X amount, then I’ll enjoy life.” Or perhaps it’s a health goal — “Once I lose this weight, I’ll finally feel good about myself.”

This kind of thinking is so common… but also deeply limiting.

When we fixate on the destination, we unintentionally place our happiness on pause. We convince ourselves that we can’t truly enjoy life until we’ve arrived — and that mindset can steal the joy from the present moment.

Life Is the Journey

The truth is: life doesn’t begin at the finish line of your goals. Life is happening right now — in the quiet mornings, the messy middles, the little steps forward (and even the ones back). And if we’re constantly waiting to have the thing so we can feel happy, confident, or successful, we miss the power of who we’re becoming along the way.

This is where the Be–Do–Have model shifts everything:

Most people think: Once I HAVE the time, money, or confidence, then I’ll DO the thing, and finally BE happy/successful/etc.

But the truth is: You must BE the person first (happy, grateful, resilient), then you’ll DO what that version of you would do — and ultimately, HAVE the life you dream about.

This subtle shift in thinking is a paradigm change — a new way of seeing the world, where happiness isn’t delayed. It’s created, moment by moment, in how we show up today.

Don’t Miss the Magic of Today

When we’re too focused on one specific goal or path, we can develop tunnel vision. We miss the unexpected opportunities, connections, or redirections that might actually be leading us to something better. Life is rarely linear — and neither is your purpose.

It’s great to have something to work toward, but hold those goals with open hands. Let them inspire you — not control you.

Because here’s the thing: when your happiness is tied to a future that doesn’t yet exist, you rob yourself of the joy available to you right now. You don’t need permission from your goals to feel good, be proud, or live fully.

Let the Journey Shape You

None of us know exactly what the future holds. And sometimes, the dream evolves. You may find that as you walk your current path, a new dream begins to unfold — one that feels even more aligned with who you’re becoming.

So set the goals. Dream big. But don’t wait to feel alive until you get there.

Be happy now. Live today. Choose thoughts and actions that feel good to your soul. That’s how you attract the life you truly want — not by chasing it, but by becoming the version of you who already lives it.

Your Next Step:

Ask yourself:
“Who do I need to BE today, to live the life I dream of tomorrow?”

Then — be her. And enjoy the journey.
